2017 Wayne Taylor Racing 24 Hours Full Size Replica Helmet Also Now Available
It started the day Jeff Gordon signed on to be a driver with Wayne Taylor Racing in the 2017 24 Hours at Daytona. That was May 2016.
Emails, phone calls, conference calls, meetings.
The #10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R looked amazing. We knew the car had to be replicated.
The process was underway, but the starting point was the ground floor.
This was a brand new prototype. There had never been a die cast or a replica before, because this car had never existed before.
First was the production challenge. Tooling for die casts can oftentimes be a six-figure investment. To offset that cost, you need a lot of volume. We didn’t envision big volume. We envisioned a special, limited production collectable replica that would be really special to someone who decides they want to own a replica of this car.
With die cast ruled out, we landed on resin. Resin can be very detailed and is a great solution for limited production. Several companies were vetted to ensure the highest quality. Sunrich Toys & Hobby was identified as the go-to company for this replica as part of their Top Speed Models line.
From there, it was on to confirming that all parties were on board with the project and ensuring rights were assigned to the manufacturer.
Then, Jeff and Wayne Taylor Racing drove the #10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R to Victory Lane, becoming the 2017 24 Hours of Daytona champions!
It was a historic victory. The win marked the first ever 24 Hours of Daytona victory for Cadillac, as well as Jeff Gordon, Jordan Taylor and Ricky Taylor.
If we had any doubts, now there was no question – the car would be replicated.
Working through contract negotiations. Sample approvals to ensure all the partners were pleased with the car. Determining the production schedule.
Being the first time this car has been produced as a replica, meant there were a lot of steps to bring this to fruition.
