FOX NASCAR BROADCASTER QUOTES:
Below are quotes from FOX NASCAR’s Larry McReynolds on the week’s headlines and the race ahead, as well as the full FOX NASCAR programming schedule from Pocono:
On whether Martin Truex Jr.’s dominating win Sunday at Charlotte could provide a momentum boost that leads to additional wins in the near future:
“It certainly could open the door for more wins, and if everything falls right, it could open the floodgates. With the twist of the knob just 1/8 of a turn, we could have been talking about his fifth win of the season after Charlotte. Truex Jr.’s team has been fast everywhere but they’ve been bitten by everything possible. It’s rare to find the kind of domination he displayed at Charlotte, but it’s possible we could see it again this weekend at Pocono.”
--Larry McReynolds
On the public and NASCAR industry reaction to Truex Jr.’s dominating win at Charlotte:
“Most people would have been grumbling if Jimmie Johnson had dominated Charlotte like that or folks would have been up in arms if the Joe Gibbs Racing cars had led that many laps. But given who dominated and the storylines surrounding what he and Sherry (Pollex, girlfriend) have been through professionally and personally, everyone is celebrating that butt-kicking with them.”
--Larry McReynolds
On the favorite to win Sunday at Pocono:
“How do you not consider Martin Truex Jr. one of the favorites at Pocono? He won there a year ago, and he kicked everyone’s tail at Charlotte and has done that several times this year but without the victory. Just because he dominated Pocono a year ago doesn’t necessarily mean he will again because we have a new rules package, but he’s a heavy favorite. I’ll also be watching Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson and all the Joe Gibbs Racing drivers.”
--Larry McReynolds
On which drivers are most in danger of missing the Chase now that the NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES is halfway through the regular season:
“The one who jumps out at me is Kasey Kahne, who continues to have a black cloud over him. I don’t see him knocking down the door to Victory Lane in the coming weeks, but a driver’s luck can change on a dime. I do expect Kahne’s three Hendrick Motorsports teammates will make the Chase, including rookie Chase Elliott, but Kahne must find another level if he’s going to do so. That team is in a big bind.”
--Larry McReynolds
On the continued success of rookie Chase Elliott:
“We expected great things out of Chase Elliott based upon what we’d seen the past couple of years and the equipment he is in, but he has far exceeded my expectations in the first 13 races. The kid has more top-10 finishes than the other three Hendrick drivers, including six-time champ Jimmie Johnson. He staged another great recovery after getting hit with a speeding penalty on pit road at Charlotte. He continues to amaze, and I won’t be one bit surprised to see him win a race this year. I fully expect he’ll make the Chase.”
