December Fan of the Month
Hello everyone, my name is Matthew Burke and I live in Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada and am honoured to have been chosen as the fan of the month for December 2015. I have been a fan of NASCAR racing since I was a teenager but it wasn’t until the Atlanta race in November of 1992 that I really became a true die-hard fan and that was due to a young up and coming driver by the name of Jeff Gordon. It was simply amazing to see such a young driver out on the race track competing with drivers such as Dale Earnhardt, Rusty Wallace, Bill Elliot, Alan Kulwicki and let’s not forget about Richard Petty. From that day forward I have cheered for Jeff every race day!!! Jeff has such a fire inside him to always compete at the highest level which has been a staple of his career. His love of the sport, respect for his competitors and the appreciation he has for all of his fans is second to none. I was fortunate enough to attend his final race at Homestead Miami Speedway and I was truly taken back at just how much he means to so many people. All of us are going to miss seeing him behind the wheel of the #24 car come Daytona. I want to wish Jeff all the best in the next step of his career in being a broadcaster for NASCAR on FOX, I know he will be great! One last thing that I would like to mention is the Canadian Motor Speedway. For those of you reading, Jeff has been heavily involved in the design of a race track that is to be built just down the road from where I live in the town of Fort Erie. I think it will be just fantastic if us Canadian NASCAR fans will get a chance to see a Cup race on the track the Jeff designed!!! #24EVER!!!!!!!
