Halston Z-14 teams with 4-time champ Gordon
MIAMI LAKES, Fla. -- In keeping with the hottest trend of pairing celebrities with designer fragrances, Elizabeth Arden is revving up for the launch of a new partnership between NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon and its classic American men's designer fragrance, Halston Z-14. A campaign featuring its new spokesperson will debut nationwide in February, coinciding with the start of the 2005 NASCAR season.
"Jeff is the very embodiment of the Halston Z-14 fragrance --masculine, trend-setting, daring and bold," said E. Scott Beattie, chairman and chief executive officer of Elizabeth Arden, Inc. (NASDAQ: RDEN). "We're confident that his popularity and universal appeal will drive both men and women to experience the Halston Z-14 fragrance, including a whole new generation of customers."
Legendary fashion designer Halston created Halston Z-14 in 1976. The classic scent is formulated from fresh green blends and unusual spiciness combined with patchouli and sandalwood, creating a distinctive, warm and masculine fragrance. Halston called upon renowned designer Elsa Peretti to create the original, innovative, free-flowing package design. Achieving instant popularity among men and women everywhere, Halston Z-14 continues to hold its position as a "Top 10" selling men's designer fragrance.
"Coming off my 14th year of racing in NASCAR, Halston Z-14 will be my signature fragrance," said Gordon. "I love wearing it because it is a bold, masculine scent that's perfect for men like me who are active, sophisticated and modern."
A national campaign will introduce special edition Halston Z-14 packaging featuring Jeff Gordon's image. Stores will carry seasonal promotions that will feature combinations of Halston Z-14 products as well as Jeff Gordon-inspired collectibles. The campaign will include radio promotions and print advertisements, and customers will have the opportunity to sample and purchase products at NASCAR speedways across the country.
A highlight of the campaign is the "Season of Speed Sweepstakes," which runs from February through August 2005. The grand prize -- a trip to the 2006 Daytona 500 to meet Jeff Gordon -- will be tucked away as one, lucky instant-win game card in a specially-marked Halston Z-14 package. There will also be ten second-place winners, who will each receive a uniform twill Halston Z-14 jacket, and 1,000 third place winners receiving signature Foster Grant Jeff Gordon Pro Series sunglasses. Complete details of the sweepstakes are available at stores nationwide.
Gordon emblazoned his innovative style on the NASCAR circuit by becoming the first driver ever to win rookie honors in NASCAR's two top divisions. Gordon is the youngest driver to win the Daytona 500 twice and is the youngest driver in NASCAR history to achieve 50 career wins. In 2001, he achieved his fourth career championship, becoming only the third driver in NASCAR history to win more than three times. His formidable racing style is surpassed only by his distinctive style off the track.
