When and why did you become a fan of Jeff Gordon?
Back in the early 90s I purchased some NASCAR items at a small store here in Ontario, included was a Jeff Gordon calendar. I have always loved racing, both my sons had been involved in racing, one in Funny Cars and one in Stock dirt racing, in the 50s we went to a lot of races in Northern NY and Ont. Canada, I was fascinated with speed, still am, would love to go for a ride in a Blue Angel Jet!. That calendar was what made me pick Jeff as my driver. Granted I have never been to a NASCAR race or met Jeff but I watch all races and even the reruns. I am 76 but am making plans to go to a race THIS year. Living in Canada it is hard because most of them are so far away, but as long as I stay healthy a trip to Pocono is my aim! Jeff is the only driver in Sprint Cup I ever cheer for and I am praying so hard for him to get a 5th Championship this year. I watch SPEEDTV and all shows having to do with racing and I consider Jeff to be the very best driver with the nicest personality I've seen interviewed. .
What is your favorite characteristic about Jeff Gordon?
I love his humanitarianism and his love of children. You just have to watch him with Ella and see the love he possesses. He never fails to amaze me when after losing a race he praises his team and crew chief and almost always congratulates the winner. Also admirable is his dedication to Mr. Hendrick for all these years.
How do you gear up for Race Day?
I watch all practices and qualifying in the days before, all interviews too. Then, on race day get my housework done, tell everyone I will be "at" the races, and if they want to visit come in the morning or be prepared to watch with me. Then, I turn on two TVs, one in living room and one in bedroom beside my computer which I log onto the Chat on JGN. Last week I did that and got so engrossed I burnt my dinner to a crisp!
What is your favorite memory of Jeff Gordon?
My best memory is of him and Dale Sr. battling on and off the track. It was a rivalry I considered a boon to NASCAR. I know though it was kept mainly for racing. I've watched a lot of old race reruns and enjoyed that era a lot. Also Jeff's' win at Texas was fantastic!
If you could choose to have any Jeff Gordon collectible, what would it be?
I dearly want an autographed picture to hang with all my other memorabilia.
What is your favorite #24 paint scheme?
I think the Pepsi Max car is my favorite right now. I also have a limited edition of the "Superman Returns" car which I love. All the color schemes are great!!
